Emeritus Professor Ken McKinnon AO
Who is Ken McKinnon?
Emeritus Professor Ken McKinnon is one of Australia’s most senior educators, with experience at the highest levels in universities, schools and government.
He was Vice-Chancellor of Wollongong University from 1981 until 1995. He was also Vice-Chancellor at James Cook University before coming to NTU as Interim Vice-Chancellor in 2002-2003.
He has been described as the doyen of Australian Vice-Chancellors.
He was recruited as Interim Vice-Chancellor at NTU at a time when the University needed a full review. He put into place several changes including the name change to Charles Darwin Universitiy and the merger of NTU with Centralian College, Batchelor Institute and Menzies School of Healtth Research.
McKinnon believes that CDU has great potential to be a 'treasure' for Australia because of its location in the tropic zone.
