Lianna Georges

“The best advice I can give is to not be afraid to try things out..."

Lianna GeorgesLianna Georges graduated from Charles Darwin University with a Bachelor of Communications in 2008 and is now a Business Development Executive at the national real-estate company, Colliers International.

“My degree in Marketing and Communications helped immensely with my role in market research and business development,” Lianna said.

On completing her degree, Lianna worked for a pearling company for two years before leaving Australia to travel overseas. When she returned, Lianna obtained a position at Colliers International where she began studying again, obtaining a Certificate IV in Real Estate Services.

The real estate industry also encouraged me to go back to CDU to study Building Design and Drafting, something which always interested me.

“What I valued most at CDU was the sense of community. Everyone from classmates to lecturers and even the Deans were always very approachable and friendly.

CDU is a great university, which I found really helped nurture and prepare people into taking the next step in life.”

Lianna is also a strong believer in volunteering for career advancement.

I’ve done a lot of charity fundraising and in 2011 was selected to be on the NT Chief Minister’s Round Table.

“The best advice I can give is to not be afraid to try things out. If you can, put your hand up to volunteer your services either for a charity or even a small business. By volunteering you are getting the chance to put the skills you learn into practice and that is the best experience that you can get.

“The CDU alumni network is a fantastic way to stay in contact with people who you already know and, in many cases, have already worked with. It will also help to reach out to others who have studied in the same areas as yourself.”
