This exhibition shares a unique vision for co-creation honed over many years by Paul Gurrumuruwuy Wunungmurra (1955-2024), a Yolŋu performer, scholar and artist who lived with his close family in the outstation of Yalakun NT.
Born on a beach on the island of Luŋgutja (Hardy Island) in Arnhem Bay, Mr Wunungmurra appeared in several Hollywood films, the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony in Brisbane, numerous international cultural festivals, and once collaborated with Marina Abramović in a production that they both deemed a failure. He co-founded the award winning intergenerational and intercultural collective Miyarrka Media based in 2009 and found international acclaim for the collaborative art of relationship making that he modelled. The works featured in this show are from that period.
Developed as part of CDU’s Dual Academy initiative, this exhibition features films, images and commentary collated for a PhD by Prior Publication by Mr Wunungmurra.
