4x4 Operation/Recovery Course (Alice Springs)

This workshop is designed for licenced drivers who need to learn advanced skills for operating and recovering four wheel drive vehicles in off-road situations, be it for personal interest or work requirements. This program may also be adapted for corporate team building exercises.

The course covers:

  • basic vehicle maintenance
  • vehicle safety
  • tackling uneven terrain 
  • recovering a bogged vehicle

Entry requirements

There are no entry requirements for this workshop. Vehicles are provided by CDU.

Length of course

This course is delivered over an average of 2 consecutive days, but may take longer depending on skill level and requirements of participants.

Assessment comprises theory and practical components.


The units undertaken in this training are taken from the FWP Training Package, are accredited and recognised nationwide.

FWPCOT3260 Recover four wheel drive vehicles

Pathways and employment

After completing the 4x4 workshop, these units may contribute towards completion of AHC21216 Certificate II in Rural Operations, AHC32816 Certificate III in Rural Operations, AHC30716 Certificate III in Horticulture or AHC31416 Certificate III in Conservation and Land Management.
