BEDEC professional experience requirements

BEDEC has 100 days of practicum experience across 4 sequences practicums, one per semester.

EPE101 - 20 days 3-5 year olds in a preschool attached to a school (Year 1 minus 2).
EPE110 - 10 days 3-5 year olds in a strictly prior to school setting (preschool) AND 15 days 5-8 year olds in a primary school (School setting Years 1-3).
EPE210 - 10 days birth-35 months old in a strictly prior to school setting AND 15 days 5 year olds in a primary school (School setting Years 1 minus 1).
EPE310 - 20 hours community service prior to 30 days in a primary school setting

Common ages

The name for the first year of primary school varies considerably between states and territories. Please refer to Australian compulsory school years (JPEG 141KB).

Course Structure

The course is theory based and practical, with students having supervised professional experience in schools/learning sites from first semester in first year. There are four professional experience blocks that require full-time commitment in each year of the course. The course can be completed by fully external study (online) or in a blend of online and internal formats. There is a high level of online study and interaction for all students.

This course requires a high level of on-line work especially for external students.
