A passion for serving the community and a love of nature has brought Andrew Woodmansey to Darwin to take on the role of Deputy Chief Operating Officer at Charles Darwin University.

Mr Woodmansey has worked in Berlin, Zurich, Tokyo, Paris and London, before arriving in Australia 14 years ago to work on projects in and around Sydney.

Most recently he was General Manager for precinct business strategy at the Sydney Opera House where he managed the commercial facilities including restaurants, bars, retail and tour operations.

He said he first visited Darwin with his wife five years ago as a keen bushwalker and photographer and they fell in love with the natural environment.

In taking on his new role with CDU he said it was an opportunity to work more connectedly with community and make a small contribution to a part of Australia that was growing rapidly.

“This is a great opportunity and a new challenge,” Mr Woodmansey said.

“While I have a commercial background I have always preferred to work in organisations that have a direct community impact or perform a social service. I am looking forward to helping to develop CDU’s facilities and services for the local community.”

Mr Woodmansey hails from the United Kingdom, graduating from the University of Cambridge with a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Oriental/Modern Languages.

He has a background in strategic, commercial, property and project management with broad domestic and international experience across performing arts, community, education, finance, property, tourism, leisure and consulting sectors.

He has worked with blue-chip public and private sector organisations such as Sony Corporation, NatWest Investment Bank and Sydney Harbour Federation Trust.

As the Deputy Chief Operating Officer, Mr Woodmansey will support the Chief Operating Officer in university-wide operational planning and strategic leadership of corporate services and corporate service divisions.

The role is also responsible for identifying and engaging business development activities aligned with the strategic direction of the university.
