Esteemed mental health academic Professor Tim Carey has taken up the role of Director of the Centre for Remote Health (CRH), a joint Centre of Flinders University and Charles Darwin University.

Based at the CRH in Alice Springs, the appointment will focus on improving health outcomes for people in the remote communities of the Northern Territory and Australia by conducting high quality education, research and training.

With an international reputation as a clinical psychologist, substantial remote area experience, and an
impressive academic track record, Professor Carey said he was looking forward to improving health outcomes in remote Australia.

“Assuming leadership of a Centre that is a national leader in remote health education and research is a tremendously exciting opportunity and privilege,” Professor Carey said.

“CRH prioritises its relationship with the community, and I will ensure we continue to provide training, research and education at an exemplary and international standard,” he said.

“Improving health outcomes in remote Australia requires advanced clinical skills as well as creative and innovative research strategies, and the dedicated and talented staff at the CRH are committed to enabling people in remote Australia to achieve the health outcomes they desire."

Before commencing his role as Director, Professor Carey was Deputy Director and Head of Research at the CRH where he conducted a patient-led psychology clinic in the public mental health service of Alice Springs.
