A Charles Darwin University Professorial Fellow has been awarded an Order of Australia for her contributions to health and nursing in Australia and beyond.

Dr Diane Brown AO recently became an Officer in the General Division of the Order of Australia recipient, after working in the nursing sector for almost 50 years.

“To be awarded an Officer of the Order of Australia is really something special and I can’t quite believe it,” Dr Brown said.

Dr Brown has worked with CDU for 10 years, initially moving to Darwin in 2005 as Professor of Clinical Nursing, a role which she held until 2007.

“At CDU, I wrote the Master of Nursing program, worked on undergraduate nursing programs, and started the development of clinically based postgraduate programs,” she said.

Dr Brown has also worked in a teaching capacity for postgraduate students and coordinated master programs since her appointment as Professorial Fellow at CDU.

She has worked extensively on strengthening relations between Australia and Indonesia through her work with the World Health Organisation and the World Bank.

Dr Brown has also been coordinating the AusAID-funded exchange program, the Sister Hospital Program, between Bali’s Sanglah Hospital and the Royal Darwin Hospital, since 2012.
