Conference to showcase future researchers
By Leanne Miles
The strength of Charles Darwin University’s future researchers will be on show at the inaugural Institute of Advanced Studies Student Researchers' Conference next month.
The two-day event will provide an opportunity for up to 70 PhD and Masters students to present their research to the wider CDU community and to hear from keynote speakers about how to navigate a research career.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President Research and Research Training Professor Lawrence Cram encouraged academics and other interested parties to attend.
“The conference will feature keynote speakers, student researcher presentations and is also a great opportunity to gather together as a student researcher community,” Professor Cram said.
Researcher Skills Enhancement Officer Fiona Quintner said the event was an opportunity for student researchers to hone their conference presentation skills, develop new friendships and network with academics.
“The program is designed not only to assist student researchers to gain the skills they will require in their careers, but also to showcase how much amazing research is happening at CDU,” Ms Quintner said.
“Our storytelling evening will feature ‘Stories from the Other Side’ – CDU Alumni sharing their student researcher journeys and we will also have some light comic relief with local comedian Amy Hetherington who will share her views on how ‘Silliness can keep you sane’.”
The conference will be held 2 and 3 May at Casuarina campus. For information or to register visit W: iassr-conference.cdu.edu.au
The conference will be followed by the first block of Research Enhancement Program workshops for 2017.
