IHD virtual competition connects students

CDU’s International House Darwin (IHD) residents recently went head-to-head with two rivals from New South Wales in a friendly virtual competition.

About 50 IHD students took part in the interstate contest against international houses from Sydney and Wollongong, in competitions ranging from trivia, online gaming, to the best TikToks and photography.

It was the second time the virtual contest had been held this year, with Wollongong competing for the first time.

In the Online Games section, IHD claimed honours in the Skipbo, Chess and UNO categories.

IHD’s Suet Yee Leong was also successful in the Photography competition, claiming the best photo prize for the shot titled “Awesome View from Darwin”.

Resident engagement officer Aman Kathed said the virtual tournament, which was established to keep students connected during the COVID-19 outbreak, was proving more popular with each instalment.

“The competition has seen the establishment of an active virtual community, which has been connecting students with fun and engaging activities to give them relief from the overload of COVID-19 news and information,” he said.

“We are hoping to grow the competition to be bigger and better and get more international houses around Australia and across the world involved.”

IHD and IH Sydney claimed shared overall honours, followed by IH Wollongong in second place.
