The Heights residential development at Durack, which is adjacent to Palmerston campus, has won a major honour at the Urban Development Institute of Australia NT 2014 awards for excellence.

The development by CIC Australia in collaboration with CDU was officially recognised in the “Affordable Housing Development” category at a recent dinner at the Darwin Convention Centre.

Project Director of The Heights, Durack Mr Geoff Smith said that one of the goals at The Heights was to help deliver housing affordability in the NT.

“So it’s great that our Lifestyle Housing initiative has been formally recognised by the Territory’s development industry,” Mr Smith said.

“For quality and price, our Lifestyle Housing homes are arguably the best new homes on the Darwin property market for first homebuyers and people on moderate incomes.

“The Territory Government has long been looking at ways to deliver high-quality affordable housing, so as part of our extensive housing mix at The Heights we’ve taken up the Government’s challenge and are now the first to deliver a lower cost product that represents exceptional buying.”

The Lifestyle Housing homes at The Heights comprise modern house and land packages starting from $495,000.

Mr Smith also paid special tribute to leading Territory builder Vantage Homes for constructing the first homes.

“The Heights and Vantage Homes have collaborated to develop superb new homes that are not only responsive to the tropical climate, but also utilise high-quality yet lightweight construction materials,” he said.

“The homes also feature solar hot water systems, air-conditioning, landscaping, fencing and light fittings, so they represent a complete turn-key delivery approach.”

The Heights, Durack, will ultimately see 882 new homes built this decade. More than 300 lots have already been sold ranging in size from 250 sq m up to 875 sq m.
