Students graduate in Adelaide and Alice

By Patrick Nelson

About 220 students have participated in Charles Darwin University’s mid-year graduation ceremonies in Adelaide and Alice Springs this month.

The events were particularly memorable for higher education students Adeline Wei Wei Tran in Adelaide, and Erin Westerhuis in Alice Springs.

Adeline, a Bachelor of Laws First Class Honours graduate, was presented with a University Medal, while Erin was awarded a Chancellor Medal for her undergraduate study into the river red gum.

The event in Alice Springs began with the Academic Procession, in which outgoing Chief Operating Officer Debra Farrelly carried the ceremonial mace.

Ms Farrelly was instrumental in bringing the mace to CDU, where it has become an important part of the university’s graduation ceremonies since 2013.

Recently installed Chancellor Mr Neil Balnaves AO delivered the Occasional Address, saying that in graduating students had marked the beginning of a new chapter in their lives.

“As a CDU graduate you are a member of our growing alumni, who are working and living in many areas of the globe,” Mr Balnaves said.

“I offer you my best wishes and look forward to hearing about your achievements in years to come.”
