Industry celebrates apprentices’ achievements

By Leanne Miles

The achievements of the best and brightest carpentry and plumbing Vocational Education and Training students were celebrated at an awards and prize-giving event this month.

Construction, Drafting and Industry Skills Training Team Leader Luis Espinoza said awards for best first, second and third year apprentices recognised the students’ achievements, hard work and commitment.

The most outstanding apprentice in Certificate III in Carpentry first year was awarded to Liam Philpott, while Hamish Croft received the prize for second year, and third year went to Tennyson Curtis.

The most outstanding apprentice in Certificate III in Plumbing first year award went to Scott Richards, the second year award was shared by Themelis Mousellis and James Veness, and the third year prize was won by Adrian Phillips.

Mr Espinoza said the awards provided an incentive for students to strive for better results and gave them something to aim for every year of their apprenticeship.

He said the prize night would not have been possible without the work of CDU VET staff and the generosity of sponsors Stratco, Darwin Bolt Supplies, Galvins Plumbing Supplies and MBA. Winners took home equipment vouchers valued between $250 and $1000, equipment, and invitations to corporate and industry events.

“These sponsors have been working closely with CDU, providing their services by means of materials, tools and knowledge to our lecturers,” Mr Espinoza said. “This is a vital industry partnership, which we hope will continue into the future.”

The awards were held in the Trades Training Centre foyer at Casuarina campus. See below for detailed prize information:
