CDU appoints marketer to Sydney CentreBy Patrick Nelson A well-travelled student recruitment professional with a passion for the education industry and international relations has been appointed as Charles Darwin University’s first Regional Marketing Manager at the Sydney Centre. Cheryl Brennan, who has clocked up visits to 26 countries during a 10-year marketing career, said her new focus was to bring greater exposure to CDU. “An important outcome of my role is to achieve larger enrolments,” Ms Brennan said. “I have a lot of experience in recruiting students from local markets, but also from offshore markets, which is important for revenue generation.” Ms Brennan said that Australia in general remained an attractive destination for large numbers of aspirational overseas students and that Darwin in particular boasted many benefits. “Darwin’s proximity to South East Asia, its many large ethnic communities and its reputation as a modern, safe city were strong selling points.” Ms Brennan said an important element of her job was to know which education agents could be relied on to ensure quality. “Student quality is very important and, fortunately, we have good processes in place to assist with this. My view is that we must always care for our students and that recruitment involves finding students who are determined to succeed at an academic level.” Outside of work, Ms Brennan, a dual citizen of the United States and Australia, said she was an “outdoorsy person” who liked kayaking, abseiling and canyoning. “We’ve got it all in Sydney. It has a huge harbour surrounded by national parks, the Blue Mountains to the west and some fantastic nature. There are some incredible hiking trails if you want to get away from the big city.” |
