Three cheers to five of the best

Students enrolled in an Education-related degree now have an extra incentive to aim high, thanks to the generous donation of an anonymous benefactor.

Indigenous Student Services Assistant Manager Esther Browne said that the “Cheers Award” would be granted annually to encourage high-achieving Indigenous students to complete Bachelor degrees and to consider postgraduate studies in Education.

“We have $1000 prizes, comprising a $500 cash payment and a $500 CDU Bookshop voucher, to offer the top five undergraduate students who achieve outstanding results and grade point averages,” Ms Browne said.

“The donor is also offering a postgraduate grant valued at $10,000, on a biennial basis.”

Ms Browne said the five inaugural Cheers Awards winners had received their awards and the official presentation would take place at the scholarship ceremony in May. The recipients are Ashlea Moorehead, Skye Clayton, Holly Supple-Gurruwiwi, Dannielle Gerschwitz and Jade Coom.
