Enterprising student secures scholarship

A first-year undergraduate in country New South Wales has won a Rural and Regional Enterprise Scholarship valued at $18,000.

Bronwyn Chenery, who is enrolled in a Bachelor of Nursing and a Bachelor of Midwifery degree, said news of her successful application had come as a “huge relief”.

“It takes the financial strain off studying," the mother-of-four and small business owner said.

“This will cover the costs of my textbooks and the costs associated with attending placements, and the clinical teaching block, which will probably be in Darwin.”

Bronwyn, her husband and four children live in Brayton NSW where she runs a beauty business doing lash extensions.

She enrolled in CDU’s online degree course as part of her goal to work with women and babies.

“It’s such a privilege to be a part of people’s lives when they start a family,” Bronwyn said.

The scholarship was awarded under the fourth round of the Australian Government’s $58 million Rural and Regional Enterprise Scholarship, which placed emphasis on applicants affected by bushfire and drought.

The program is administered by the Scholarship Support Organisation.
