A Charles Darwin University student from Tennant Creek has won the $15,000 Chief Minister’s Higher Education Scholarship for Women.

Laura Wright, a first-year nursing undergraduate, said she was “pretty chuffed” upon hearing the news.

“It’s just what I need and will help quite a bit,” said Laura, who earlier this year also won the $6000 Vice-Chancellor’s prize for high achievement.

Laura will receive the scholarship in instalments over the next three years as she progresses through her nursing program.

She will also receive $1200 towards a laptop computer.

Meanwhile, two other CDU students have also won Chief Minister Scholarships for Women.

Vocational Education and Training students Joanne Scott of Humpty Doo and Jane Wairimu of Nightcliff, have both won scholarships valued at $2000.

The scholarships, which are funded by the Northern Territory Government and administered by Charles Darwin University, provide Northern Territory women with an opportunity to gain their first qualification.

Some 62 applications were received this year.
