A recent study tour to schools and universities in China and Hong Kong by 12 Northern Territory school principals has strengthened growing ties between CDU and the NT Government and the Chinese province of Anhui.

Led by the Centre for School Leadership at CDU, the study tour was part of an executive leadership development program facilitated by the Queensland Educational Leadership Institute. NT Minister for Education Mr Peter Chandler also participated for some of the tour.

Director of the Centre for School Leadership Mr Gary Fry said the study tour was an excellent experience for the principals to explore issues in international education.

“The tour participants were able to compare and contrast teacher development in China and Hong Kong with NT schools,” Mr Fry said.

The group visited a number of schools and colleges in Anhui provincial cities of Hefei and Wuhu for benchmarking purposes, as well as the Anhui Normal University and the Hefei Normal University (both universities dedicated to training teachers). The group also visited the Centre for School Leadership at the Hong Kong Institute of Technology.

The tour was part of an ongoing exchange between the Northern Territory and Anhui province, which has a population of 60 million and is considered a major centre for education in China. In 2013 Chinese school principals visited the Northern Territory, and the Confucius Institute at CDU, which is co-sponsored with Anhui Normal University.
