Student prize puts pressure on water use

A Charles Darwin University design student has been rewarded for his environmental themed artwork with the cover of a Darwin arts and culture magazine.

Bachelor of Creative Arts and Industries (New Media Design) student Benji Steane won the Living Water Smart cover competition, on the theme valuing Darwin's water supply, with his work entitled “The Battle of Aqua”.

Benji’s work was selected from a swag of entries to feature on the November cover of Off The Leash magazine

“The artwork is a fantasy take on the issue of water abuse among domestic users,” Benji said.

“Often ignorant to the consequences of excessive water use, this artwork establishes a forum for discussion on the issue.”

Benji said he aspired to work as a matte painter and digital artist in the film and television industry.

His screen print work, entitled “Hollywood Territory”, also was showcased recently in the group exhibition “Fledgling: The best of CDU print students 2016”.
