Excellence award for engineering alumna

Charles Darwin University alumna Jacinta Kelly has been honoured with a national excellence award from the peak body for Australian engineers.

Ms Kelly, who has graduated with three CDU degrees and who once lectured at the University, won the Engineers Australia Young Professional Engineer of the Year award.

“It’s a wonderful honour to have had my professional peers recognise my achievements with this award,” Ms Kelly said. “But really, this is an award for all the people who have supported, encouraged, mentored and influenced me along the way. Engineering is much more of a team-oriented pursuit than an individual pursuit.”

Ms Kelly is credited with bringing an enthusiastic collaborative approach to projects and stakeholders and for her ability to identify and address project constraints and risks.

“One of the more rewarding aspects of my career are the opportunities I get to connect with stakeholders from the beginning of a project to the very end, and to see where your creativity and technical skills can contribute to the community,” she said.

“I’ve been fortunate to be an engineer in the Northern Territory. There have been lots of opportunities and challenges that have allowed me to attain a wide variety of experiences relatively quickly.”

Ms Kelly is a Certified Practising Project Manager, a Chartered Professional Engineer, and was the General Manager for Darwin construction company Kalidonis until resigning recently to have her fifth child.
