Music to blend in cultural exchange

A flautist will perform a free recital as part of her cultural exchange at Charles Darwin University this week.

Supported by the School of Creative Arts and Humanities and Confucius Institute, the visiting scholar from Anhui Normal University in China, Maggie Wujing will perform on Saturday 30 April in Darwin.

Born in Nanjing, the capital city of Jiangsu a coastal Chinese province north of Shanghai, Ms Wujing began to learn the flute at age 10. At 12, she was admitted to the high school program provided by the prestigious music institution, Nanjing University of the Arts in Jiangsu.

As a top student she furthered her undergraduate study at the same university. She later undertook post graduate study at the Wuhan Conservatory of Music.

Confucius Institute Chinese Director Wang Hua said the recital would form part of Ms Wujing’s three-month visit to CDU.

“The Confucius Institute is a partnership between CDU and the Anhui Normal and Hainan universities in China that is designed to build cultural ties within the community,” Mr Wang said.

“Ms Wujing has taught in Anhui Normal University since 2002 and will share her knowledge with staff and students at CDU.”

“A Flute Recital by Maggie Wujing with Associate Artists” will be held on Saturday 30 April at 7pm, Casuarina campus, CDU Theatre, Orange  3. Other artists performing with Ms Wujing will include CDU Lecturer in Piano Chen Hui (piano) and Centre for Youth and Community Music tutor Janusz Kwasny (flute). Entry is free.
