Fulbright lecture to focus on leadership

A lecture exploring the themes of global and diverse leadership will be delivered by the American Fulbright Distinguished Chair in Cultural Competence Professor Jean Lau Chin at Charles Darwin University next month.

Titled “Global and Diverse Leadership: New models of leadership for culturally diverse communities in the 21st Century”, the lecture will be held on Thursday, 7 June.

“Leadership today is more important than ever as the 21st Century brings about rapid and significant change in society and our institutions,” Professor Chin said.

“As our communities become increasingly diverse and more connected internationally, we find existing leadership models are not inclusive of all groups; they reflect the prevailing dominant culture and not the leadership of minority and indigenous groups or women.”

Professor Chin will discuss her research and the issues surrounding successful leadership as communities becomes increasingly global and diverse, and whether there are effective types of leadership that are not typically identified in the mainstream leadership literature.

Jean Lau Chin is Professor of Psychology at the Derner Institute for Advanced Psychological Studies, Adelphi University, United States. Her Fulbright scholarship is sponsored by the National Centre for Cultural Competence at the University of Sydney.

The lecture will be held on Thursday, 7 June from 4 to 5pm in building Blue 5, room 01 Charles Darwin University, Casuarina campus. For more information visit W:
