Running into ‘wellness’ at CDU
The “Wellness Centre” launch on Casuarina campus was a great success, with hundreds of people enjoying a morning packed with family-oriented activities.
Fun runs, markets, sports demonstrations, cultural food and music created a festival atmosphere at the event on 18 May.
Manager of the College of Health and Human Sciences Gus Diaz said the fun runs proved a hit.
“More than 100 people, including children as young as seven, and mums pushing prams were involved in the one kilometre run," Mr Diaz said.
"The fitter and more competitive adults engaged in the three and five kilometre runs, which weaved on and off campus.”
Mr Diaz said the kids particularly loved the face painting, water slide and bubble blowing.
“Bubble blowing encourages and teaches children how to regulate their emotions using breathing exercises. It helps them to be calm and concentrate,” he said. Mr Diaz thanked the CDU Student Association for its involvement and partnership in organising the event.
The Wellness Centre was previously the psychology clinic. It has now expanded to help people with their mental, physical and social wellbeing.
New services include a cardiovascular health check, health and fitness assessments, body composition, sleep quality, and social work assistance and supervision. It is open to the wider community.
The centre is located at Green Building 5, off Lakeside Drive, Casuarina campus.
