Charles Darwin University green thumb Scott McDonald will start the New Year with an extra skip in his step, having been honoured by peers in the gardening industry.

Mr McDonald, the CDU horticulture and aquaculture team leader, received the president’s award at the 2014 Nursery and Garden Industry Australia Awards in Darwin recently.

“It’s nice to be appreciated by one’s contemporaries,” said Mr McDonald, a long-term committee member who has been instrumental in organising the NT Tropical Garden Spectacular for several years.

Mr McDonald said he was excited about the new arboriculture course on offer at CDU for the first time this semester.

“It’s a new certificate III course over 18 months that starts in late February.

“I’ll be partly delivering it, but we’ve secured the services of some of Australia’s leading trainers from Victoria, which is a bit of a coup.”

Mr McDonald said CDU was taking enrolments but cautioned that there were limited places.
