Grads shine at ceremonies

By Leanne Miles

Graduands have tipped their mortarboards and crossed the stage as part of Charles Darwin University graduation ceremonies in Darwin.

The ceremonies have drawn to a close years of dedication to their chosen field of study and were an opportunity for family and friends to celebrate their achievement.

Thousands of students received awards across a broad range of vocational and higher education qualifications.

Some 17 of the graduands received PhDs for their research ranging from helping to discover a way to ease joint pain to a project investigating how fire affects the food source of the endangered Gouldian Finch.

Dr Dean Patterson was honoured with an Honorary Doctorate in Science for his outstanding contribution to the development of tertiary education in the Northern Territory in the fields of electrical and electronics engineering. Emeritus Chancellor The Honourable Sally Thomas AC was awarded with an Honorary Doctorate in recognition of her significant contribution to the advancement of tertiary education through being Chancellor of the University.

Next month ceremonies will be held at the Adelaide Convention Centre on Tuesday 12 June at 7pm and at the Alice Springs Convention Centre on Thursday 14 June at 7pm.
