New hair and beauty lecturer for Alice

By Patrick Nelson

Charles Darwin University has responded to a call from industry and appointed a hair and beauty lecturer in Alice Springs.

Team Leader of Sales and Personal Services Linda Manning said long-term resident Monika Bloedorn was already hard at work getting to know students.

“No more will we be sending our Top End staff to Alice each month for a week’s teaching,” Ms Manning said.

“Monika’s appointment will allow us to offer training on a day-release basis for Hair and Beauty again, which is what industry had requested from us.

“This means that our hair and beauty salons at Alice campus will be open every week until the end of the year.”

Ms Bloedorn brings many years’ experience to the salon in the Red Centre.

“I did my training in Adelaide and have been running my own hair, beauty and nail studio business for a number of years. I regularly return to Adelaide to do extra updates.”

Ms Bloedorn said she was looking forward to working with the apprentice hairdressers from local salons and beauty technicians, enrolled in either a Certificate III or through the Vocational Education and Training in Schools program.
