Katherine celebrates record numbers

By Patrick Nelson

The university has celebrated the academic achievements of a record 188 students at an end-of-year gathering at the Godinymayin Yijard Rivers Arts Centre in Katherine.

Katherine Campus Administrator Vicki Williams said a large gathering of family, friends and members of the community turned out to recognise the hard work that students had invested into their training this year.

“This was an event for celebrating achievement; it was the icing on the cake for what has been an outstanding year for the university in Katherine,” Ms Williams said.

“Every student who completes a Certificate or course with us has achieved something noteworthy and it’s important that we take the time to acknowledge this.”

Ms Williams said that 11 students had completed Bachelor or Masters awards, including five in Education.

“Most of our activity is through the School of Vocational Education and Training where we offer Certificates and Diplomas in more than 30 disciplines.

“The courses with the most student numbers this year included Agriculture and Rural Operations and Business Studies.

“The bulk of these were either Certificate II or Certificate III but we also delivered a large number of short courses, which help individuals remain up to date as employees.”

Ms Williams said CDU also acknowledged several students from Kintore Street School who received a Certificate recognising their participation in the “Taste of University” program.

Meanwhile, the CDU community in Nhulunbuy also has celebrated the success of about 60 students who completed courses this year.

Campus Administrator Polly Smart said: “We also issued well over a hundred certificates of competency through the year.”
