Event to highlight engagement with Indonesia

A range of initiatives that reflect Charles Darwin University’s strong relationship with Indonesia will be showcased during a Casuarina campus event this month.

The CDU Engagement with Indonesia event will highlight education and research collaborations and other initiatives in the region, such as midwifery clinical placements in Bali and Indonesian mangrove rehabilitation efforts.

Pro Vice-Chancellor for the Faculty of Engineering, Health, Science and the Environment Professor Sue Carthew will host the public event.

Head of the School of Education Associate Professor Laurence Tamatea and lecturer Dr Nici Humphreys will discuss the school’s involvement in the project entitled “Creative Resources and Digital Learning Environments Indonesia-Australia”.

The project aims to use Indonesian and Australian university resources to provide educational opportunities for disadvantaged Indonesian youth.

Indonesian studies lecturer Dr Nathan Franklin will speak about a recent conference at CDU that highlighted the city of Darwin’s connection to Indonesia through history, politics, education, language and culture.

NT Cattlemen’s Association (NTCA) project manager Carley Bidstrup will provide an overview of this year’s NTCA Indonesia-Australia Pastoral Program. Indonesian Consul to the NT Andre Omer Siregar will make concluding remarks.

The event will be held at Room 1, Level 1 at the Australian Centre for Indigenous Knowledges and Education (Blue Building 2A), Casuarina campus on Thursday, July 28 from 4.30pm until 6.30pm.
