New book focuses on optical properties

CDU Professor of Physics Jai Singh has celebrated the release of the second edition of his edited book “Optical Properties of Condensed Matter and Applications”.

Published more than 10 years after the first edition was released, it presents state-of-the-art developments in almost all topics related to the optical properties of materials.

Since 2006, many advances have been made in the field of optical properties of materials, including electroluminescence in organic light-emitting diodes, organic solar cells, opto-electronic devices, which are covered in the second edition.

The study of optical properties of materials has now become an interdisciplinary field and scientists of physical, chemical, biological sciences, nanotechnology, engineers and industry researchers have strong interests in the field.

Professor Singh said optical properties was one of the fastest growing research platforms in material sciences and the book would be a valuable tool for those in the field.

“Not many books are currently available with such a wide coverage of the field with clarity and levels of readership in a single volume as this book,” he said.

“It took more than a year to get all the chapters modified/completed and consists of 20 chapters, four more than in the first edition.”

Published by John Wiley and Sons, the book is expected to assist senior undergraduate and postgraduate students, teaching and research professionals in the field. Optical Properties of Condensed Matter and Applications is available in hard copy and e-book versions.
