Music students gain orchestral experience

By Ellie Turner

About 40 budding Northern Territory musicians have taken part in an intensive orchestral experience at Casuarina campus.

Children aged seven to 17 were invited to attend the second annual “Legato”, coordinated by Centre for Youth and Community Music tutor Lois Fong, which concluded  in a concert showcasing the students’ progress in performing as part of an orchestra.

CYCM director Paolo Fabris said students brought instruments including the violin, cello, double bass, clarinet, flute, saxophone, trombone, trumpet and percussion to the three-day program.

“Legato means ‘tied together’; we wanted young students from across Darwin to become joined in music,” he said.
