Writer on a winning streak

Academic Language and Learning lecturer Dr Adelle Sefton-Rowston struck gold for the third year running at last week’s Northern Territory Literary Awards.

Dr Sefton-Rowston claimed the 2017 University Essay Award, the same category she won in the two previous years. This year’s entry was titled Poetic Justice: a writer’s response to graffiti in Don Dale’s Youth Detention Centre.

CDU is a major sponsor of the awards, which are hosted by the Northern Territory Library. The university is a particular sponsor of the Essay and Creative Non-Fiction awards.

Pro Vice-Chancellor of the Faculty of Law, Education, Business and Arts Professor Peter Kell, who presented CDU’s awards, said the categories reflected some of the university’s core strategic objectives: connection, discovery and growth, and an ongoing emphasis on academic rigour.

The Creative Non-Fiction Award was won by Kylie Stevenson for Notes from a dying town.
