Staff write names into literary award finals

Two Charles Darwin University lecturers have been named as finalists in this year’s Northern Territory Literary Awards, among other well-known and emerging writers.

Social work lecturer Julie U’Ren was announced as a finalist in the Southern Cross Flash Fiction category for her work entitled “Scooped Out”.

Higher Education teaching lecturer Dr Adelle Sefton-Rowston became a finalist in the CDU Essay Award category for her work, “Cleansing and Catharsis: The River as Metaphor in Tony Birch's Ghost River”.

Batchelor Institute of Indigenous Tertiary Education research fellow Mary Anne Butler is a finalist in the Brown’s Mart Theatre Award for her piece entitled “Things You Can’t Walk Away From”.

The 24 finalists were selected from 300 entrants across all categories in this year’s awards.

The awards are a Northern Territory Library initiative, and CDU is a principal partner and sponsor of the CDU Travel Short Story Award and the CDU Essay Award.

Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on July 27.
