Staff recognised for long service

Charles Darwin University has held a ceremony to acknowledge 48 staff members who have achieved milestones in the length of their continuous service.

Among them were Allan Haines and Margaret Burden, who have served the university for 30 years, and Toong Yeen Lee, Malcolm Caldwell, Quan Lac Tien, Hemali Seneviratne, Lorraine Connell and Bienuenida Pech, who have achieved the 25-year milestone.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Simon Maddocks said it was crucial to recognise the importance of staff who had devoted a significant part of their working lives to the university.

“Long-serving colleagues provide the experience and the stability that translate to the reliable delivery of services, lasting relationships with stakeholders and invaluable mentoring for new employees,” Professor Maddocks said.

“We hope you may be encouraged to continue with us.”

Staff who have achieved their 10, 15 and 20-year milestones also were acknowledged.

The event at Casuarina campus was the first of two celebrations scheduled for the Top End this year.

Eligible staff at interstate or regional centres will be acknowledged in their communities.
