Music student Jenaya Allen promises to be better prepared next year when she tries out for the Battle of the School Bands talent competition.

Jenaya and Studio 2 band members Chloe Daniels and Steven Wasaga made it to the battle final in Darwin this year, having earlier won the Alice Springs regional heat at Centralian Senior College.

But as Contemporary Music lecturer Cain Gilmour said, other finals contestants had a better day.

“It was a great experience for Studio 2 and the Alice soloists Levi Rothwell and Keahnu Bishop,” Mr Gilmour said.

“They will be richer for the experience and better prepared second-time round.”

Mr Gilmour said judges were particularly impressed with the quality and maturity of songs by the Alice Springs artists.

“Jenaya’s love song ‘My Baby’ was selected from 22 original works as best song, which is an achievement in itself.

“It’s a catchy pop song with lyrics that capture some of the feelings that young people experience.”

Their prize included an acoustic guitar and a $500 voucher.

“They used the voucher to buy a ukele, a guitar case and an assortment of minor items.”
