Student farewell concert ends on high note

Charles Darwin University VET music students in Alice Springs have given a spirited display of their skills at an end-of-year concert, pumping out a mix of original and cover songs across the rock, soul, hip-hop and techno instrumental genres.

Contemporary Music Lecturer Cain Gilmour said the eclectic mix was a by-product of encouraging students to explore their personal tastes in music.

“I encourage students to enjoy what they play, so it’s important that they identify what they like,” Mr Gilmour said.

“I also encourage uniqueness in their abilities, so they’ll stand out in the industry. The idea is to develop student skills, so they become self-sufficient musicians.”

Mr Gilmour said students were involved in all aspects of the production as part of their studies.

“Students need to know how to set up and produce an event every bit as much as they need to know how to perform in front of a live audience.

“Collectively, they have progressed a long way this year and can be well proud of the performance.”

The concert took place in the Centralian Senior College auditorium.
