An outstanding trades student from Alice Springs has won an excellence award from the construction industry.

Certificate III in carpentry student Tom Clarke won the Construction Apprentice Mentoring Scheme’s Apprentice of the Year Award at the Master Builders awards in Darwin recently.

“It was nice to be acknowledged by the industry,” the fourth-year apprentice said.

Tom, who has worked for Scope Building NT for three years, said he had been focussing on advanced roof framing, cladding and wall framing this year.

“The theory has dovetailed neatly into our on-the-job projects,” he said.

“We’ve been working on a number of house renovations throughout Alice Springs and the new science lab at St Philip’s College.”
