VET graduate to represent NT at nationals

A Charles Darwin University VET graduate from Nhulunbuy will represent the Northern Territory at the Australian Training Awards after having won the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year award at the NT Training Awards.

Dale Dhamarrandji, who completed a Certificate III in Mobile Plant Technology this year, is the first Yolngu diesel fitter at Rio Tinto Gove.

He was one of two CDU students to collect trophies at the gala dinner of the 65th NT Training Awards.  

Sophie Reid, a police cadet who is studying a Certificate III in Business, won the VET in School Student of the Year award.

Four other CDU students were runners up in their categories. They are: Luke Roberts (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of Year), Shannon Veltman (Austin Asche Apprentice of Year), Zoe White (Vocational Student of Year) and Brooke McKenna (School-based Apprentice / Trainee of Year).

Vice-Chancellor Professor Simon Maddocks extended his congratulations to all finalists, runners up and winners.

The Australian Training Awards will be held on 20 November.
