Charles Darwin University Vice-Chancellor Professor Simon Maddocks joined prominent industry, community and government representatives on a panel of experts as part of Darwin’s Regional Summit on Developing the North.

Professor Maddocks commented on issues ranging from higher education, to the future of the oil and gas industry in the Territory, and opportunities for building the Territory’s relationship with Asia.

Darwin was the last of four Northern Territory centres to host a summit. The panel answered questions from the public.

Professor Maddocks said that education domestically and internationally could continue to strengthen through Asian ties and that CDU was well positioned to offer cultural and academic support for students from Asia.

The Australian Government will produce a White Paper within 12 months that will detail a strategy for the region’s development.
