Baker hip hops to another prestigious award

Darwin hip hop artist Danzal Baker has won the prestigious Charles Darwin University Art Award in the 2018 NT Young Achievers Award.

Danzal 21, is a dancer, rapper and actor, known as Baker Boy. Born in Darwin and raised in Milingimbi and Maningrida communities, Baker Boy raps in Yolngu Matha and English. He is the lead artist for Indigenous Hip Hop Projects, known for their works with students in remote communities. Baker Boy has toured Australia extensively and his debut single Cloud 9 won the Triple J Unearthed NIMA competition and two ‘NT Song of the Year Awards’.  

Danzal won the Art Award from a strong field of nominees and was one of 12 category winners. The NT Young Achievers Award attracted 350 nominations from across the Northern Territory this year, with Alice Springs man, Roger Wilyuka, crowned overall winner.
