Orientation offers window on to uni lifeBy Katie Weiss Hundreds of new and returning students have settled into university life in time for the start of Semester 2, which begins today (18 July). Students familiarised themselves with facilities and services during recent Orientation activities at campuses and centres in Darwin, Katherine, Alice Springs, Sydney and Melbourne. Senior events officer Nattapong Teerakaew said Orientation aimed to help students make a smooth transition into university life and to understand their study requirements before their courses began. “The first week of semester is an important time for students, especially for those who are studying at university level for the first time,” he said. “Orientation aims to help students make a smooth transition into university life before the semester begins and their workloads build up.” Activities during the week included guided campus tours, workshops and information sessions on topics such as course requirements, scholarships and essay writing. On Wednesday, international students received an official welcome from CDU’s Office of International Services and attended workshops on culture, safety, and overseas student health cover. On Friday, domestic and international students put on their problem-solving hats to compete for prizes in the CDU Amazing Race challenge.
