Prestigious honour for marketing academic

One of Charles Darwin University’s longest serving academics has been nationally recognised for his services to the world of marketing.

Dr Rajeev Sharma was awarded a life membership at the Australian Marketing Institute in recognition of meritorious service in advancing the objectives of the AMI. Life membership is the most prestigious honour that the AMI awards to members for outstanding service and leadership.

“It’s a great honour to have been recognised by my peers,” Dr Sharma said. “While it is satisfying at a personal level, this also is some good news for the Northern Territory in a year that has produced a great deal of gloom.”

Dr Sharma is widely published and has presented papers at conferences around the world. He has taught in India, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Nigeria, Papua New Guinea and Australia, including almost 30 years at CDU and its predecessor institute, the Northern Territory University.

“Even after all these years I find marketing to be an exciting field of study, research and practice,” he said.

Dr Sharma is currently undertaking research relating to the use of social media in disaster management.
