The Katherine Rural Campus Brahman Stud has reached new heights by winning a total of 70 prizes in the cattle sections at the Tennant Creek, Katherine and Darwin Shows this year.
Team Leader Agriculture and Rural Operations Alison Haines said some of the highest honours were shared among two bulls, Leroy and Nitro, and the cow Lulu, each winning multiple ribbons.
“We did particularly well at Katherine Show where we won the Adrian Creighton Memorial Trophy for best pen of cattle, as well as being judged most successful exhibitor,” Ms Haines said.
“Lulu won supreme champion exhibit at Katherine, and Nitro was judged grand champion Brahman bull at Darwin.
“It’s been an outstanding six weeks for our staff and for the students from Katherine High School, who presented their cattle beautifully at both Shows.
“Georgina Harley won four ribbons in the handling and parading classes, although she was given a good run by several of her colleagues.”
Ms Haines said CDU’s award winning stud comprised 150 purebred Brahman cattle and a commercial breeder group of 150 Brahman cows bred to Brahman and crossbred bulls.
