Path to future on show at ExpoBy Patrick Nelson Charles Darwin University will challenge hundreds of Territorians to imagine a world of new and exciting possibilities at the NT Skills Employment and Career Expo in Darwin this week. Student Recruitment Coordinator Tanya Weatherstone said the expo provided the perfect opportunity for CDU to inform the community about career options and learn about training and education pathways. “Interactivity will be one of the key ingredients,” Ms Weatherstone said. “Visitors will have the opportunity to take a virtual reality helicopter flight, make mocktails or try their hand at welding, using our simulator. “One of our Engineering Honours students will demonstrate some of the features on the new 3D printers. “We’ll also have staff on hand to answer questions about courses, career pathways and employment possibilities.” Ms Weatherstone said she was delighted with the response to expos held in the Territory’s regional centres last week. “We estimate about 800 people visited our stand in Alice Springs where again interactivity proved a great way to start conversations and generate questions. “Our hair and beauty staff were kept particularly busy with many visitors taking the option to try their hand at straightening, curling and braiding hair, or to have an exfoliation hand massage. “We took questions about the Monday evening nail technology classes, school-based apprenticeships and the beauty and hair dressing courses.” Ms Weatherstone said visitors also engaged at length with staff from the nursing, digital media, metal fabrication and automotive sections. In Darwin, the Skills, Employment and Careers Expo will be held at the Convention Centre on 30-31 August.
