Design student gets a nod from art judges

Certificate IV in Design student Lana Twyford has received a Judges’ Commendation in the prestigious 2019 Portrait of a Senior Territorian Award.

Lana’s commendation was for a work titled “They Made a Lovely Couple”, which features Dr Ian Hance who is a recent CDU PhD graduate and is well known for his paintings of costume attired termite mounds.

Lana said she was surprised and delighted about receiving a commendation, given she had not entered one of her works in an art competition before.

The Hon Sally Thomas AC, Kamahi Djordon King, Jonathon Saunders, Kaye Strange and Wendy Wood judged the Awards this year, based on technical expertise, originality, effectiveness in capturing the personality of the subject and the Territory’s identity, culture and history.

The Portrait of a Senior Territorian exhibition is on display in the NT Library at Parliament House until 15 December.
