Theatre stars in building awards

Charles Darwin University has a new star on Casuarina campus with the Performing Arts Theatre refurbishment winning two awards in this year’s Master Builders Northern Territory Excellence in Building and Construction Awards.

The $5 million project, which was completed earlier this year, won the categories of Electrical Commercial and Electrical Voice Data, with both areas of work completed by the same company, Nilsen (NT) Pty Ltd.

Funded by CDU and the CDU Foundation, the refurbishment of the 40-year-old building at Orange 3 included retractable patron seating, acoustics, a revamped on-stage area, break-out area, new mechanical plant and systems, storage facilities and a general refurbishment of existing areas.

The area has been welcomed by the performing arts community and so far has been used by the community and CDU for concerts and public lectures.

Work began on the Theatre in June 2015.
