Time to Shine brings out the macabre and magnificent

By Patrick Nelson

Alice in Wonderland’s Mad Hatter and dark fantasy’s Maleficent have provided some of the sparks of creative inspiration at Charles Darwin University’s hair and beauty showcase at Palmerston campus.

A macabre zombie-esque beauty also was seen posing nonchalantly before the camera, as were an assortment of fellow models glitzed and graced for weddings, formals, tea parties and other social festivities.

Hair and Beauty Team Leader Linda Manning said students had worked hard to maintain the heights of creative and technical excellence at Time to Shine catwalk events of previous years.

“This year's Time to Shine event took the form of a commercial-style photo shoot,” Ms Manning said.

“We also held a Time to Shine event at Alice Springs campus, where students demonstrated high levels of creativity and technical flair.”

Ms Manning said students spent several weeks developing their image and style concepts using a mood board.

“It was an important part of their training, which reaped some great ideas and some amazing looks.”

Ms Manning said the photos would go before a panel of judges, comprising representatives from the hair and beauty industry.

“Winners in Alice Springs will be announced on 22 October and in Palmerston at our annual prize giving event on 29 November.”
