Savanne wins top trades trophy

By Patrick Nelson

Electrotechnology student Savanne Canobie won the School of Trades’ highest accolade at the third annual awards presentation night at Casuarina campus.

Savanne, who works for Alcan Gove in Nhulunbuy, collected the Advanced Training International Sean Kildare Overall Trade Apprentice of the Year trophy, an achievement that drew praise from Head of School Roy Brandner.

“This is a wonderful achievement for Savanne, who has demonstrated hard work, effort and a high level of skill throughout her apprenticeship training. I congratulate Savanne and indeed all winners and nominees on their achievements.”

Mr Brandner said it was a delight to be involved in the ceremony, which recognised the top students from 2018.

“I wish every one of you all the very best for the future; you are the future of the Northern Territory.”

Mr Brandner said the School of Trades continued to deliver training to more than 1300 apprentices across the Territory.

“Our apprentices are vital contributors of skill to our economy, filling critical roles that industry needs to flourish.”

He also thanked industry and government partners, employers, the Trades team and sponsors.

“These awards would not be possible without the generous support of Advanced Training International and major sponsor ERGT Australia,” he said.
