A new Charles Darwin University program is aiming to ensure its executives, directors, heads of school and senior managers are briefed on emerging issues in the Northern Territory.

The first of the CDU Leadership Group’s “University Briefings” was delivered recently by NT Department of the Chief Minister Deputy Chief Executive Officer Dr Rachel Bacon.

Hosted by Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Sharon Bell at the Waterfront Precinct, Dr Bacon briefed about 70 members of the CDU Leadership Group on the NT Government’s economic development strategy.

Office of Leadership and Organisational Culture director Dr Janis Shaw said the briefings aimed to update the group about important external issues, which could affect CDU’s strategic positioning in the NT.

Dr Shaw said it was also an opportunity to build a strong leadership cohort at CDU and develop networks and relationships between senior staff and external colleagues.

“When working as closely with NT Government as the University does, it is important to understand the context we are working in as new initiatives come along,” she said.

The University Briefings will continue next year, with speakers including Northern Australia Development Office general manager Luke Bowen and NT Department of Business Deputy CEO Andy Cowan.
