Two new videogame-like simulators have become a popular attraction at this year’s Open Day on Casuarina campus, allowing visitors to make a virtual exploration of a mine site.

The excavator and dump truck virtual simulators gave the more than 5000 visitors to Open Day the opportunity to experience loading and offloading materials at the virtual mine site.

Automotive and civil team leader Leith Darrach said the simulators exposed prospective students to one of many trade training activities offered in CDU’s Vocational Education and Training course.

The simulators represented mining qualifications offered at CDU, including Certificate III in Civil Construction - Plant Operations and Surface Extraction.

“We hope to show people how much the trades training sector has developed over the past 10 years in terms of new technologies and processes,” he said.
