Scholarship backs tech-savvy students of tomorrow

New scholarship for students with a passion for technology New scholarship for students with a passion for technology

Applications are open for a new scholarship supporting Charles Darwin University students who have a passion for technology and innovation.

The Westpac Young Technologists Scholarship, valued at $5000 a year for up to five years, is available to first-year undergraduates studying a Bachelor of Information Technology at CDU in 2016.

CDU External Relations Manager Martin Redhead said students with a desire to bring about change through cutting-edge technology and innovation were encouraged to apply for the scholarship.

“It is a scholarship that will allow students with a passion for technology to live their dreams in a field of study characterised by opportunity and boundless horizons,” Mr Redhead said.

“We expect it will attract young people with a real spark for technology.

“We want to support up-and-coming Australian technologists to ensure the best and brightest students, regardless of background, are given the opportunity to contribute to the technological landscape of the future.”

The Westpac Young Technologists scholarship is one of five scholarships offered through the Westpac Bicentennial Foundation, which aims to support those with the drive to shape Australia.

Westpac Bicentennial Foundation CEO Susan Bannigan said now more than ever investment was needed in future technologists.

“The Westpac Young Technologists Scholarship comes at a critical time. Based on current trends, the Australian IT industry will be significantly challenged in attracting, developing and retaining sufficient local IT talent within the next five years and beyond.

“My advice to any young people considering a career in technology: don’t miss this opportunity. Beyond the financial contribution, this scholarship also gives you lifelong access to the Westpac Scholars Alumni, offering you a range of networking and mentoring opportunities over the course of your studies and throughout your career.”
